YMCA ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROJECT
Finished Project
The YMCA is running a Youth and Adolescent reproductive Health Project in two districts in the Volta Region namely; Ketu and Hohoe District.
In the project young people are mobilized and trained on issues of reproductive health among young people.
Trained youth are placed in the communities to educate their fellow young people on the subject. The project aims at creating awareness among young persons about the dangers in STIs and STDs including HIV/AIDS.
In a bid to scale up the existing HIV/AIDS projects being undertaken by the Ghana YMCA in the country, funding has been sourced from the Ghana Aids Commission for the implementation of a Peer Educators program on HIV/AIDS.
The project duration is one year and it is on – going and scheduled to end in December 2005. The project is being implemented in six out of the ten administrative regions of Ghana targeting areas in the country where the HIV/AIDS prevalence rates are higher than the national rate of 3.1%.
So far 144 Peer Educators have been trained and they are reaching out to their peers on the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
