AFFORESTATION PROJECTS
 Project

The Ghana YMCA has assisted a total of 500 local farmers in the East Akim District of the Eastern Region to plant 600 acres of teak trees in a project aimed at rebuilding the forest and to project the environment from dissertation.

Ghana YMCA undertook an agro forestry scheme project from 1995 to 2001 with sponsorship from Y Care International, which is the YMCA of the United Kingdom. The project was undertaken in the East Akim District in 15 project communities were Nkronso, Densuso, Apedwa, Bretima and Amanfrom.

Farmers were trained and encouraged to undertake agro forestry alongside their traditional crops that they planted. Ghana YMCA cultivated a demonstration nursery of Teak on a land that the farmers had declared as not good for cultivation of any crop.

About 400 local farmers were encouraged to plant 600 acres of trees.
