Visit by CIDA Evaluator
To be able to identify the successes achieved, the challenges that cropped up and the way forward, an Evaluator, Ms. Sabrina Di Marco visited the Ghana YMCA to undertake evaluation of the Overseas Project being sponsored by CIDA Canada through the support of YMCA Canada and Greater Toronto. She was in the country from July 4 – 8 2007.

She was taken to two of the project implementation sites, that is, Takoradi and Koforidua. She interacted with the peer educators at Koforidua where they performed sketches to show what they had learnt during the HIV and AIDS education.

Ms. Sabrina Di Marco had the opportunity to visit the training center in Takoradi to meet the young ladies undertaking skills training as well as inspect the equipment which was procured through the CIDA funds. The National Youth President of the Ghana YMCA also interacted with her on an exchange programme he attended in Vancouver, in 2005 which is a CIDA funded programme.

She had a similar encounter at the Technical Training Center in Accra where they had equally benefited from equipment supplied through the CIDA funds.

Construction of Fence Wall
The Ghana YMCA started the second phase of the construction of a Fence Wall around the property in Accra. So far about 300 feet long of a concrete wall has been erected at the northern end of the 6.1 acre land on which the Head Office, the Technical Training Centre and the Hostel are situated.

It would be recalled that about 2 years ago the frontage of the facility was walled and a metal gate was placed at the entrance to enhance security. Some new blocks are being moulded to continue the work. We are happy to intimate that the efforts will continue steadily and gradually until the whole property is securely fenced.
