APRIL 2007
Youth Led Response to HIV and AIDS
Ghana YMCA received 14 young people from Canada who came from three organizations namely Youth Challenge International (YCI), Club 2/3, and YMCA of Greater Toronto. These youth came to participate in a programme dubbed Youth Led Response to HIV and AIDS with sponsorship from CIDA and with support from YMCA of Canada. They were in the country for this programme from 28th April – 23rd June 2007.

They collaborated with their peers in Ghana and went through HIV and AIDS education training as Peer Educators. They went on further to undertake outreach programmes to educate young people in their project communities.

At the end of the programme they were able to come out with a training manual on HIV and AIDS which would be used by the Canadians once they go back to their country to continue the education.

JUNE 2007
Country Focus Group Meeting – GOP
The fourth country focus group meeting and the second for the year was held in Accra from 13th – 17th June 2007. The road map developed in January 2007 was critically reviewed and all partners congratulated the Ghana YMCA in their achievements made so far. However it was observed that there was the need to work hard on targets such as staff audit and succession plan for the Ghana YMCA.

Western Zone Meeting in Togo
Ghana YMCA participated in the Western Zone meeting held in Bagbe Togo from 20th – 24th June 2007. The National Chairman who is also the Chairman of the Western Zone of YMCAs was the leader of the Ghanaian delegation.

The zonal conference focused on country reports from the past two years with special emphasis on Institutional Strengthening, Social Relevance and Financial Sustainability. Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Senegal and Togo YMCA presented their country reports based on their Global Operating Plan road maps.

The zone again came out with a Future Search which was underpinned by the process started in Accra in February 2007 by the Africa Alliance of YMCAs.
