YOUTH URGED TO ENGAGE IN VOLUNTEERISM

Mr James Ekwow Rhule, President of the Africa.

Alliance of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) has called on the youth to develop the spirit of volunteerism in order to give back to society.

He said volunteerism pays and noted that apart from helping to build one's skills, it was a fine opportunity to network and to uncover new opportunities.

He made the call when he presented a paper on "Leadership Roles" at the third Christian Youth

Breakfast Meeting of the Greater Accra branch of the Ghana chapter of YMCA in Accra on Sunday.

The meeting, which was under the theme: "Preparing the Youth for the Leadership Role and

Collective Responsibility", aimed at equipping participants with the requisite skills to enable them to take up leadership roles to champion African renaissance.

Mr Rhule deplored instances where young people always expected to make some monetary gains in any service that they rendered, saying even though they could take it when offered; it must not be the motivation for rendering such services.

He challenged the youth to take up internships to build their experience to enhance their chances at securing jobs.

He urged the youth to be innovative and creditably discharge any roles that they might be assigned at any institution; "see yourselves like the manager of any responsibility given you and deliver your best for its success".

Mr Rhule also cautioned the youth not to adopt crooked means to assume leadership position, saying "you must earn the position in order to command respect of followers, which is necessary to succeed".

Men Changing Men
The system of male domination is no new thing in our world today, but the danger is that we as young men do not question it as we are born and socialised into it without being exposed to a masculinity option that does not dominate or harm.
